Monument Valley: The Mittens and Merrickโ€™s Butte

Our operations are anchored in two vibrant locations: Algonquin, Illinois, and Mesa, Arizona. These settings are carefully selected to foster our deep connection with nature for our artistic process. Whether it’s the serene lakes and lush greenery of Algonquin or the stunning desert landscapes and dramatic sunsets of Mesa, our surroundings inspire us to create breathtaking landscapes.

This proximity to diverse natural beauty enhances our capability to deliver exceptional fine art photography that captures the essence of these remarkable environments.

Because we are constantly moving back and forth and seeking out new places to create our images, we do not have a brick-and-mortar gallery to display our work. We offer our images and merchandise for our clients online only.

Not to worry, we offer a 100% no-questions-asked return policy. If, for example, you order an image from our online gallery, and it turns out not to be what you expected, follow the instructions in our return policy and send it back to us. Weโ€™ll return your purchase price in full.

There is one condition: if the item is not fit for resale because of shipping damage, we will make a small (10%) reduction in the overall purchase price; in short, if you follow the return policy, it tells you exactly how to protect the artwork in the packaging. Follow those directions, and damage should be no problem.

Welcome to Fine Art Photography by Roger Passman

Roger Passman began his lifelong journey into photography at the age of thirteen, when he first experienced the magic of the darkroom. Watching images appear before his eyes as he developed his first roll of 35mm film, Roger discovered not only the craft of photography but also his gift for seeing the world differently. That unique visionโ€”his ability to notice light, texture, and form where others might notโ€”quickly made creating images one of the central passions of his life.

Throughout his years as a teacher and later as a university professor, Roger never stopped photographing. When he retired from the university in 2008, he devoted his days entirely to making images. After experimenting briefly with sports and portrait photography, he realized that his true calling lay elsewhere. Landscapes and cityscapesโ€”places, shapes, and the silent presence of natureโ€”became his palette. From that moment on, nature has been both his muse and his teacher.

For the past fifteen years, Roger has dedicated himself to capturing places of profound natural beauty and spiritual resonance. He divides his time between the rolling hills and farmland of the Midwest, where his home in Algonquin, Illinois, keeps him close to the landscapes of his youth, and the rugged splendor of the Sonoran Desert in Mesa, Arizona, where mountains, flora, and light inspire endless new perspectives.

Unlike many artists, Roger maintains no physical gallery. This choice is deliberate. Without the overhead of gallery operations, he can offer his work at prices accessible to serious collectors and art enthusiasts alike. By using print-on-demand professional labs, Roger ensures that every piece meets the highest standards of quality while minimizing costsโ€”savings he passes directly to his clients.

At Fine Art Photography by Roger Passman, youโ€™ll find a curated selection of landscape and nature photography, digital art, and illustration available as fine art prints and wearable or collectible designs. Each image reflects Rogerโ€™s lifelong pursuit of beauty, truth, and the enduring artistry of the natural world.

A Few Words on Methodology

The Art of Seeing: How Roger Passman Creates His Images

For Roger Passman, making photographs begins long before pressing the shutter. It starts with seeingโ€”really seeingโ€”the patterns of light, the play of shadow, and the quiet geometry of the natural world. Inspired by the wisdom of the great 20th-century photographer Garry Winogrand, Roger follows the idea that photography involves two distinct acts of selection. The first happens in the field: choosing what to bring from the eye into the camera. The second takes place later, in the editing room, where each image must earn its place among the finished works.

Roger takes this process to heart. When heโ€™s out in the Sonoran Desert or among the rolling hills of the Midwest, his camera rarely rests. He keeps shootingโ€”moving, adjusting, chasing subtle shifts in lightโ€”because every frame offers a new chance to express what he feels in that moment. Once back at his desk, the real work begins. Like an author refining a manuscript, Roger studies each image, editing carefully until the strongest emerge. Out of dozens of shots, perhaps only a handful are worthy of printingโ€”those that capture the emotional truth of the scene.

Each finished photograph, whether transformed into fine art wall decor or printed on a coffee mug, tote, or wearable piece, carries this devotion to the craft. What you see on the site is not just a picture, but the culmination of seeing, creating, and refiningโ€”an invitation to bring the beauty of natureโ€™s light and texture into your own daily life.
